Wondering About Volunteering?

As my love for needy animals grew, I decided to become part of group of volunteers for the Quinte Humane Society of Belleville. I also did a small bit of volunteering at the Victoria Humane Society while I was staying out in BC last winter. Sometimes you may think you would not want to volunteer because the animals don't really need it, or you think the workers there will consider you a bother. Not true. It gives such good feeling, and is one of the rewards that only you know is there. People ask how the volunteers can do it - how can they stand to see the dogs and cats looking so sad.

Well, instead of sitting home feeling sorry for the homeless animals, or just putting them out of our minds, we volunteers are donating our time to making their lives a little nicer.

Instead of giving all the attention to one dog at home, we give even just a little attention to a few dogs who really need it. It's easy to find the time, and there isn't a lot of work to it - going for a nice walk with someone who thinks it is heaven...well, it isn't really work then, is it?

There's probably a Humane Society or animal pound near you. Go take a dog for a walk, or give him a brushing, and don't forget about the cats!
